With impassioned speeches, raised voices and even tearful presentations, hundreds of working Albertans gathered in a Legislature committee room to convince MLAs to kill controversial changes to Albertas public pension plans. Nurses and paramedics said they worried about their ability to continue to work into their 60s without the option for early retirement. “The government ... has imposed changes that decreased my benefit and forced me to remain working on the front line as a paramedic at the age of 60,” said Michael Parker. MLA public hearings tonight in Fort McMurray (Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre, 530 MacKenzie Boulevard) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday in Grande Prairie (Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre, 11633-100 Street) are open to the public from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. June 20 is the deadline to register to speak at next weeks pension hearings in Calgary, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Red Deer.
