With much appreciation and love to our friend Tim Pratt... Thank you, Tim. Your words touch my soul and honored Dad so eloquently. Beautiful photo. You did such a nice job creating! Thank you, Michele Bramlett Tim Pratt When I initially started writing about this guy, I hardly knew where to start. The beginning is always a good place, but in this case, it seems so vague. Not much is published about “the guy from the neighborhood“, but there is plenty to make up for it with regards to being a pioneer in music for the past five decades. His indelible mark on the music industry can’t be ignored, although the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has found a way all these years to neglect one of most venerated and influential people in the industry. To try and post his entire list of writing, producing, and playing credits would require a separate page on Facebook, and listing all the people with whom he’s played or produced would read like a musicians’ directory. Looking back, I recall bringing up the name Delaney Bramlett to some of my friends. I was so surprised at how many people couldn’t recall the name. I often relate to the name Bramlett as the duo, Delaney and Bonnie on many rock, blues, and soul recordings. So, I thought that might ring a bell, but nope. Then, I would share a little history, song titles, or point out some other music personalities who have been movin’-n-shakin’ over the years because of Delaney’s help and influence. That’s when things started to ring familiar, and as well it should! I mean the man had a career spanning more than fifty years as musician, singer, song writer, and producer. Then it occurred to me that I’m just getting old. There are only a few of us, among my music lovin’ friends, who remember (or will admit to remembering) the old television show Shindig that featured a very young Delaney among so many other “Shindogs” like Leon Russell, Glen Campbell, and Billy Preston to name a few. There are few who knew about the STAX years, or the epic tour and recordings of the supergroup, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends. The “Friends” just happen to be a Who’s Who of rock music; notables such as Eric Clapton, George Harrison, (former, fellow Shindog, Leon Russell), King Curtis, Duane and Gregg Allman, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge, Carl Radle, Jim Gordon, Bobby Whitlock, Jim Keltner, Bobby Keys, and Gram Parsons. Sadly, he’s gone now…only a five short years ago, on this day. However, his voice resonates loudly, not only through his music, but through the many other musicians, who held him in high regard as a teacher, a mentor, a friend and member of their family. Speaking of family, I was thinking about my Facebuddies, Michele, Suzanne, and Bekka Bramlett, while remembering their Daddy, today! In the past, I’ve shared with them how my dad really dug Delaney and Bonnie. It was because of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, that he was introduced to a couple of his favorites; the late great Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton, and he made DAYUM sure they were all welcomed in our house, as well…not a bad way to grow up! He would have especially liked the smaller, more intimate sets like this one from Kulaks Woodshed, mainly because of the content and Delaneys soulful testimony. Delaney Bramlett July 1, 1939 – December 27, 2008 Rest easy, ol son...
