With the implementation of “No Kill” Shelters we have created - TopicsExpress

With the implementation of “No Kill” Shelters we have created a serious pet over population problem, worse then ever before. Shelters in general are very high stress environments for all animals, they are lonely, noisy, busy, and in general unpleasant for an animal, particularly for an animal who has been accustomed to a quiet home, a regular routine, human companionship, and sleeping on the family sofa. Thanks to “no kill” shelters, there are a great number of animals living out their lives in a kennel, a crate or in an over-crowded foster home. This is not necessarily the best way for an animal to end its final days on earth and if most pet owners were aware that this is the truth of what could happen should they surrender their pet, they may consider that this may not necessarily be the best option. If you look at the entire picture, all of a sudden euthanasia is not such a horrible choice. It is a choice that should be made with compassion and love and after much soul searching. If humane euthanasia is your choice are you a monster? Not necessarily, you know that no further harm will come to your beloved family member, there is no suffering involved and you will have taken full responsibility for your pets future. You can go to sleep at night, knowing he is not locked in a crate somewhere, or a box stall, and wondering what happened and where you are. If your pet is old, has health issues, training issues or temperament issues, it may be more humane to allow him a peaceful end.
