With the instant access we have to information on the Internet, Im - TopicsExpress

With the instant access we have to information on the Internet, Im often dismayed to see the incredible amounts of FALSE information perpetuated as truth particularly on social media sites (like this)... Is it that people are too lazy to verify a source before sharing? Is it more to do with the desire to believe the often ugly things they share? Or do people prefer to remain ignorant of the truth so that they can disguise their hate with so called facts? The truth is out there, folks. Fact checking rarely takes more than a minute or two on Google. Most searches are so fast, it generally takes one try to determine fact or fantasy. Im puzzled by the need to spread lies about others. Its the truth that sets us free, right? When I see a blatantly false post, I will sometimes send a link to alternate facts as I feel some small sense of obligation...because quite frankly... some folks post things that make them look like raving lunatics if you take a step back and have an objective look at them. Im not the smartest, most level-headed person... I know. Ive a short fuse, and can be downright confrontational when someone gets under my skin. Ill be 56 years old in a few weeks, and it seems the older I get, the less sure of myself (and of my opinions) I become. Some wise person once said; You can lead a horse to water, but you cant make it drink. On the surface, that saying probably doesnt mean much to most folks. If you look a little deeper, it is the most insightful of comments Ive ever taken the time to examine... You can lead a person to truth, but you cant MAKE them believe. People will believe whatever they choose to believe. No amount of coercing will change their mind. Ive learned that all you can do is present a compelling argument as to how you believe, and the rest of the work is up to the person on the other end of the dialogue. You cant make the horse drink. You cant change the persons mind, and you cant make a person behave how you want them to behave, no matter what you say or do... All change comes from within. So my point is, and yes I do have one... Ignorance may be bliss, but its not an incurable disease... Please verify the truth of what you post before you share it with the world. Whatd you expect? Its raining cats and dogs outside and Im suffering a little cabin fever.
