With the recent passing of Pete, It got me to start thinking of all the people that have come before him, that had come before me, that had come before all of us that made up our wonderful neighborhood Ozone Park. The people that made the difference whether good or bad, or right or wrong, they went unacknowledged by many because they died before the age of the Internet. They put Ozone Park on the map. They helped build Ozone Park into the great community it once was and strives to be today. They are the people that did the grunt work, they are the people that did their work without complaining. They are the greats that made Ozone Park a wonderful community for us to enjoy. The people that built up our neighborhood for a better life for their families. The good, the bad the ugly. The people that lived behind closed doors away from everyone, The people that sold shoes that pan handled for money that sold balloons, frankfurters, flowers, or whatever they could do to make a living. The people that painted their house over and over again, the people that never cut the grass or weeds but we knew they lived in that house. The people that looked out their windows and told our parents the bad their kids were doing. Every block had them. The people that came over on the boats, some jumping ship to make a new life in the new country. The people that lived on pennies a day to feed their families. We owe our existence to the people that came before us to help build their lives for the future generations to enjoy. Some never got to see the fruits of their labor. No matter who it is they helped build Ozone Park. They helped make Ozone Park the place it once was. They gave us our futures. And remember that our families came from East New York, Bed Sty, Crown Heights, Down Town Brooklyn, Citi-Line, Cypress Hills, to get to Ozone Park on to Howard Beach, Richmond HIll, Woodhaven and even South Ozone Park. All for better lives. Today I want to reflect on those people that never had the opportunity to be eulogized on the Internet. They never had people say nice things about them because the Internet did not exist. Their funerals attended by few because no one knew they even passed away some never even getting proper funerals because families left them or they had no families. Lets reflect on the people that came before us and helped make our futures As we get older we are going to forget, we are going to be frustrated when we attempt to remember something or someone. It is inevitable. But here we can share the memories that will last forever. The memories that will be written down and looked at for years to come. Help share the memories that we have of the people that we do not know about. Thank you. Sam
