With the second pick on hand, Rain or Shine is seriously monitoring the rookie hopefuls who they believe can help the team in the long run. Elasto Painters assistant coach Jay Legacion admitted that Rain or Shine is really in dire need of a big man, but nothing is set in stone just yet. “We’re looking for a big man talaga. Sa ngayon, may mga prospects dyan. Tingin ko, sa day of the Draft talaga magde-decide kasi ang dami pang mangyayari eh. With the team now, mahirap galawin kasi kumpleto din kami,” he said. Though the squad has Beau Belga and JR Quiñahan, both guys play more on the outside, leaving Raymond Almazan and undersized forwards Jervy Cruz and Larry Rodriguez in the paint. Legacion added that they are really looking at specific guys, like Jake Pascual, who is considered as the best big man prospect in the pool, to be selected as the second overall pick. “We’re considering Jake because he already had practices with us. He’s a good prospect for that spot,” he said. Rain or Shine owns the second and ninth picks in both the first and the second rounds, and Legacion said that they just might use their second rounders to further strengthen their backcourt rotation, just like what they have done in the previous drafts. “We’ve been doing this, getting some bigs early and getting some guards later in the Draft. Historically, yung second rounders namin, puro guards. We started with Ryan Araña, with TY Tang, then before sila Marcy Arellano and RJ Jazul. Those were the guys na pagdating ng latter part of the second round, nakukuha namin,” he said. “Actually, we like more on the overall game. Ang gusto ni coach Yeng (Guiao) is their defense. But for now, everything is still up in the air. “Sa ngayon, we cannot assume yet kung sino talaga ang pwede naming kunin,” said Legacion, as the same goes for draft day movements. “Maybe, we might make a move.
