With trepidation Im publishing this post. Ive remained mostly silent on many of the threads about community issues because I frankly didnt want the negativity that I would most likely receive. So, here it is… what if this community proactively began to have conversations about how they envision Yachats to be. The fact is that change does happen, time marched forward and you either actively creative your vision of what could be, or you just let things happen randomly and complain without any constructive input. Of course the challenge with this approach is that you have to learn to dialogue with each other which includes respecting varying points of view and deep listening that includes compromise for the greater good. There are many communities that have done this with great success; Port Townsend, WA, Willets, CA just to name a couple. They look at all aspects of what impacts a community and began to talk about each one: climate, economic development, emergency preparedness, energy and food reliance, water and land use, waste etc - whatever is relevant. If you want community resiliency, prosperity and sustainability it begins by creating your vision which relies on having constructive conversations.
