Within a few short days, 3 year old Washington found himself going from running a Bronx street to sitting in a cage at Manhattan ACC. His initial medical showed him not to have been well taken care of—underweight & needing extra feeding, hair loss. And then of course, 3 days later he caught the dreaded shelter “cold”. That 3rd day is the day ACC chose to give Washington his behavioral eval and guess what, “his resource guarding is severe”—did no one notice that he was starving when he got there? And then they brought in a strange dog, and though Washington tried, he was still so much into the “protect myself” mode that he only got a 3. So that did it for ACC—they figure that Washington’s had enough time to suddenly not be emaciated or scared or hurting and they put him on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. And of course, they’ve made him New Hope Only. So tonight, Washington needs a very special, experienced person out there who understand what it takes for a young dog to go from fighting for his life headset to being just a plain, ordinary, good dog. Washington needs that person to start applying to rescues to foster or adopt him. But that person needs to do it right now—tomorrow, ACC won’t think about any of what Washington is feeling—they’ll just take him down the hall and make him gone forever.
