Within a week of being dismissed by the new government, former Climate Commissioner Dr Tim Flannery has put in motion plans to continue the commission’s work as a privately funded council. But as James Bourne reports, it remains unclear how the expensive activities of the new body will be funded. New Environment Minister Greg Hunt scrapped the Australian Climate Commission in one of his first acts as minister last week, and said overnight that Flannery’s plans to establish a ‘Climate Council’ vindicated his decision. Talking to RN Breakfast this morning, Tim said that he still hoped taxpayers would reach into their pockets to fund the new council, which is currently relying on small private donations to cover its annual budget of more than $1 million. ‘If we raise $1000 an hour for the next little while I’ll be quite happy’ – See also …. fleurcom.org/blog/climate-change-news-and-information/
