Without Fanfare It came without fanfare, without any rolling - TopicsExpress

Without Fanfare It came without fanfare, without any rolling out of the red carpet. The Supreme Court of the United States refused to take cert. of the appeal by the State of Utah pertaining to the issue of gay marriage. By this simple action, the issue of gay marriages became moot as a matter of law in the State of Utah. The confusion no longer an excuse, clarity no longer an issue and injustice no longer a reality. So now the work begins. The term civility has been offered, may I also add to it kindness and compassion. We can have a difference of opinions, beliefs and commitments without having it be a zero sum game of winners and losers, us and them. We are, after all, today, citizens of the United States before we are anything else. The shelter of the Constitution, this umbrella, against the storms that would violate our civil rights protects all of us not merely some of us. Our democracy is robust enough to have a difference of opinions but without the alienated isolation of discriminatory practices that would recognize the sanctity of one at the vilification of another. Civil rights dont work that way and today the Constitution clarified it for the State of Utah as well. So now our actions will be witnesses to our intentions. So now our words will be witnesses to our truths. So now our compassion will be witnesses to our salvation. The last test will not be a legal battle but the war between our fears, suspicions and possibility of our better selves. All of this will happen too, quietly, without fanfare, within all of us. But with one caveat. This day was worth celebrating and will be celebrated for years to come.
