Woke up thinking-- Christmas, Jesus, Romans, Roman torture device, the cross, out there in public. A very human body hanging. Romans putting on a show of power-- Let that be a lesson to you! No shame. USA, torture devices, hidden and then exposed. Human bodies mangled and exhausted. The elected officials in charge? No shame. (As PK Dick wrote in Valis: The Empire Never Ended.) I also just reviewed Proverbs of Ashes on Goodreads. At the very heart of Christianity is a father who tortures and very publicly murders his son. Intimate family violence, for supposedly a good reason. Then, of course, theres Abraham. Not to mention Im in the middle of American Gods for the second time-- where gods of all sorts, from all over the world, demand sacrifice and violence, demand blood to keep them strong and vital. When the sacrifices stop, they become a sad, forgotten lot. Dont know where to go from here; its all rumbling around in my head.
