Wolves are being tortured with shares, traps, baited with poisoned - TopicsExpress

Wolves are being tortured with shares, traps, baited with poisoned meat, or meat laced with hooks. There are hunter forums that openly discuss “gut-Shooting, and “spine- shooting” in which the wolf, or coyote is intentionally wounded severely and then left to die slowly. The shooting from helicopter, electronic calling, denning, (the gassing of dens including the pups), and hounding, (a wolf is chased and the torn apart by a pack of hunting dogs, many times the hunter injures the wolf first), are other examples of the torture that wolves face every day, and in some states the hunting season is 8 -10 months long! No other creature has had to endure such brutally for so many years. If Deer or Elk were subject to these cruel behaviors, public out cries would have abolished these acts years ago, so why is the wolf treated differently? 20 percent of YNP’s wolves have already been killed; I’m sure some were lured out of the park by baiting. Many were wearing easily visible tracking collars used to collect research on these magnificent creatures. It’s inconceivable that the US FISH & WILDLIFE Service expects wolves to know there’s a boundary line they cannot cross. There needs be a “safe zone” surrounding YNP, and baiting, trapping, and other torturous acts need to be banned nationwide. Since the reintroduction of wolves in YNP, there’s been the re-establishment of other animals, making YNP more appealing to the public. In the areas where wolves survive, the ecosystems have BEGUN to recover as well. Other wildlife and vegetation has begun to return, Deer & Elk herds are stronger, and continue to move, thus preventing overgrazing, so the rivers are beginning to run cleaner. Wolves have proven to be an ESSENTIAL creature in the wild. They should not be treated as vermin, or experiments, but treasured as key players in the balance of nature that man has taken for granted. I am demanding as a taxpayer that ALL wolves remain on the endanger species list, and to place the wolves in states that have their own wolf management plans back on the endanger species list. These states are permitting the slaughtering of wolves without control, without a limited hunting season; in fact they have expanded the hunting season, also they have permitted the barbaric acts that I mention above without any attempt to stop the torture. These states have proven that they are incapable of wolf management, and that they cater to the hunters, and not the needs of the people, wildlife, or what is morally right. The recovery of the wolves can be a great success story, IF Government allows wolves to RECOVER, and not permit the widespread killing that has occurred in states where the wolves and taxpayers have been forsaken by the delisting, and so called “management plan”. The PEOPLE have spoken out AGAINST these killing sprees, the U.S. Gov. needs to LISTERN to the MAJORITY, not the 7 percent of hunters, or the highest bidder! It is simple, WOLVES balance nature, and should be TREASURED and PROTECTED, man needs to control himself, and leave nature alone! Thank You
