Woman cited for leaving dog in hot car.... An Eastlake woman was cited after leaving her dog in a hot car in the 9000 block of Mentor Avenue. The dog was in the car at least an hour but as much as 3 hours on July 18th around 1pm. An officer opened the door to save the dog. MFD responded and took readings in the car of 100-104 degrees even though it was only 77 degrees outside. The windows were open a few inches but the dog was in distress. Heather Vliek was issued a citation for M1 (the highest degree misdemeanor) animal cruelty. She is due in Mentor Municipal Court on July 22nd at 8am. Please be mindful of your pets if you must leave them in a vehicle, park in the shade, provide water - or best yet, do not leave them in a vehicle at all!
