Women & Stroke Symptoms Each year, nearly 800,000 Americans - TopicsExpress

Women & Stroke Symptoms Each year, nearly 800,000 Americans have a new or recurrent stroke, which occurs when a blood vessel to the brain is blocked by a clot or bursts. Studies that have historically centered on men identified stroke symptoms such as trouble speaking, weakness or numbness in one arm, or drooping on one side of the face. New studies are finding that women often present different symptoms: frequent migraines with aura, dizziness or altered senses such as tingling, ringing ears or sensitivity to light. These symptoms are now included in new stroke guidelines. The key to surviving stroke and limiting disability in men and women is getting help fast.
