ACCOUNTANT Women for Women International is a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Washington DC with country offices in eight countries around the world. Our mission is to provide women victims of war and other conflicts with tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty into stability and self-sufficiency, thus promoting a viable civil society. Women for Women International (WfWI) is seeking to hire an Accountant, to be based in Baghdad, Iraq. Job Summary Under guidance and supervision of the Finance Manager, the Accountant is responsible for establishing, maintaining and coordinating the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures for the Iraq office; assisting the Finance Manager with preparing, reviewing and monitoring program and project budgets. Main Duties and Responsibilities General Accounting and Bookkeeping: 1. Daily booking of all transactions and reconciliation of cash and bank balances using double entry bookkeeping system 2. Provide fully reconciled reports detailing income, expenditure and cash/ bank reconciliations 3. Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness 4. Maintain an efficient, proper and transparent financial filing system of all documents relating to finance 5. Resolve accounting discrepancies Accounting Control: 1. Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures, according to internal and legal regulations. 2. Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits 3. Prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents. 4. Explain billing invoices and accounting policies to staff, vendors and clients. Assist Director of Finance and Administration: 1. Assist Finance Manager in preparation, review and monitoring of program and project budgets 2. Assist Finance Manager in preparation and review of financial reports, including reports to Headquarters office and donors and oversee Finance Department during leave or absence of Finance Manager. Required Skills & Qualifications • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or relevant field. • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in an accounting environment, preferably with an NGO. • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles. • Demonstrated experience with double entry bookkeeping system. • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports. • Experience preparing and reviewing budgets. • Excellent computer skills including working with MS Word and Excel. • Working knowledge of QuickBooks. • Database /data entry and analysis experience is required. • Strong sense of honesty, accuracy and transparency. • Effective communication skills. • High level of fluency in English and Arabic is required (reading, writing and speaking).
