Wonder what ya boy been up to? Well check this excerpt from my fine arts final. My paper was on the art of ancient Olmec, Inca, and Aztec. I assert that by studying their artifacts, it is reasonable to conclude that Meso-America was one of the worlds first multi-cultural and socially integrated societies. As part of the cradle of civilization, there is a preponderance of evidence in the artwork of Mesoamerica to suggest that they hosted visitors from both Africa and Asia. Conclusion I selected a collection of Mesoamerican, and Mesoamerican inspired art because I am intrigued by its impressiveness. Whether sculpting boulders, carving jade, or adorning the edifices of their buildings with lavish murals, the artisans of Mesoamerica have influenced the world. The argument for the idea of a “primitive” Mesoamerican society serving as the world’s first multi-cultural melting pot may seem implausible to some. However, it is through my study that I have come to the understanding that art is both a historical record, and a preservation of culture that reflects cultural values, beliefs and identity, while helping preserve the many different communities that make up our world. As such we need only be equipped with an open mind and critical thinking skills to consider the possibilities. When observations are made through such a lens, suddenly the implausible may seem plausible. I got an A.
