Wonderful 17.5 mile training run with my mate Fay on Sunday. I ran the first 13.1 in 2hrs14, which would have been a cancer PB by about 4 mins, if it was a half marathon race. Not bad for the end of a chemo week. If i could maintain the 10.14 mins/mile pace I averaged then a 4 hour 30 marathon would be within reach. Im going to have to improve my endurance if I want to maintain that sort of pace for a full 26.2 miles, so theres a lot of work to be done between now and the Machester Marathon on 19th April. With Fays help Im looking to smash my 4hrs53 PB there. Its not just about running fast though. Since having trouble with severe chemo side effects a few weeks ago Ive really struggled for energy and have found it difficult to train. Chemo last week left me poorly and quite anxious. It was the last dose of my course, so before I start treatment again I need to go for a scan to see if my treatment is still working. No matter how positive I am about my situation anxiety always creeps in when its time for a scan. I guess it comes down to the fact that I feel very lucky to be here and still living after recieivng my terminal prognosis almost two years ago. I worry that my luck might have run out almost like I dont deserve to have so much good fortune. At times like this putting in some decent training is the perfect tonic and the best way blow away my worries. Thanks so much Fay!
