Wonderful recording project from two old friends. Gerry Pagano has been a close friend of mine since grade school and Mike Lake was a roommate of Gerrys when I played in Phoenix Symphony. Roads Less Traveled is a project wonderfully conceived by Mike which is very easy to listen to because of the diversity of Mikes arrangements. Ive heard alto trombone used in jazz before, but Ive never heard it as singing or beautiful in style. As a bass trombonist, Im very envious of Mikes long phrasing and musicianship. Besides Mikes wonderful playing on this project, he was in charge of the arrangements along with the recording & mixing. Gerrys effortless and stylistic accompaniments seem to be the perfect complement to Mikes solos. A real joy to listen to. Enjoy!
