Wonderful trip north with my sweetie, Michael Scholtes. We were hosted in grand fashion for several days by friends Mike and Dorothy Dybas in their gorgeous home in Sturgeon Bay (Door County), then we headed further north into the Upper Peninsula to St. Ignace where we caught the ferry to Mackinac Island where we stayed at The Grand Hotel for two nights. Highlights were renting a horse and buggy for an hour plus of sightseeing around the island plus of course the fudge and salt water taffy. The Grand Hotel is an anachronism - ridiculously tiny room with too-soft bed and for $400/night a wonderful view of the roof of the kitchens. If you decide to visit Mackinac Island, probably better to stay in one of the quaint bed and breakfasts. The Grand Hotel is something to see - just dont stay there. Its a rip-off
