Woodward routed Ada 49-7 at Norris Field on Friday to reach the Class 4A football quarterfinals. The Boomers, 8-3, led from start to finish and bettered the Cougars in every area of the game, scoring touchdowns with their offense, defense and special teams. After leading 19-7 at halftime, the Boomers broke the game open with a pair of big special teams plays in the third period. First Lane Reazin blocked a punt that Micah Kee scooped up and returned 40 yards for a touchdown. On the very next play, Ada fumbled the kickoff and Jason Alexander recovered. Two plays later Kale Hixon hit Reazin for a 7-yard touchdown and suddenly it was 33-7 and the game was pretty much over. The Boomers added touchdowns by Dakota Taylor and Jesus Fraire and a field goal by Alexander. In the first half, Devon Comstock recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score, Hixon connected with Marlatt for a 7-yard touchdown and Kee scored on a 1-yard run. Ada ends its season at 7-4. The win was a bit of revenge for the Boomers, who lost to Ada in the first round last season. The Boomers will play next Friday at Wagoner, a 28-7 winner over Fort Gibson on Friday. Clinton and Anadarko also won first-round games, though in different fashion. Clinton edged Harrah 27-21 while Anadarko pounded McLoud 41-2.
