Worcs ATV Round 7 – Brandon Lugan Race Report - TopicsExpress

Worcs ATV Round 7 – Brandon Lugan Race Report Glen Helen Raceway – Devore, Ca Round 7 was held and the ever so popular Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, Ca. This round would prove to test our stress levels as we were literally down the wire to get the quad running due to a full transmission fail at Round 6. One of the two cases I needed arrived just a few days prior to the event. My Motor builder Greg spent until late in the evening assembling the night before we headed to California and had no test run on the quad. We arrived at Glen Helen Thursday evening and discovered that we had an electrical issue, so we spent until late that night with a few other riders trying to troubleshoot the problem , with no luck . Early Friday morning we headed to the track and a handful of racers changed out my carb for one on my backup Honda and still had the same problem . Luckily Tire Blocks owner Kenny Sanford was on hand to help out and finally found the issue was sensor related..I was up and running ! I missed one practice but was able to make my last two MX practices and my Unclassified for a sneak peek of the course . Glen Helen was somewhat different than in years past… They added a Pond jump and an Endurocross section consisting of logs (called the chicken lane for those who chose the logs over the pond jump haha) and tires .Practice went well aside of making some last minute adjustments to my stabilizer and rear shock . Sat. morning was my Open class. I was desperate to get the hole shot to make sure I got out in front of my main competitor in points . I grabbed the holeshot and lead into the MX section and through the trails until I hit the end of the Lucas Oil section. I held a solid 2nd until the end of the race I now race two races on Sat. so my next race was a few hours later in the Sport 15-29 class. The track conditions had deteriated since my morning race as the trail sections were becoming whooped out.. a lot of holes …and rough in the wash. Once again I grabbed the hole shot and led throughout a portion of the MX track. I started having Stabilizer issues as it would turn from soft to stiff and felt unpredictable and caused me to not be able to race my normal riding style . I worried it would cause my bars to jerk out of my hands. I would end up taking the final spot on the podium in 3rd place. It could have ended a better race, but I was still pleased to have two hole shots and two podiums for the wk end with no mechanical problems. I have to give a HUGE thanks to all the racers and a few of the Vendors for taking their own time to troubleshoot my Honda so that I would not be sitting the sidelines for the wk end. Thank you Bingo for working so late to get my Motor put back together in time. Also huge thanks again to Kenny Sanford . You asre always so kind to make sure I’m dialed in before my Motos! Thanks you to Mike Bell, Pro Am rider Bryce Rachet Ginger Peart and all the guys in there pit . Nick for putting carb together and a few other things..The Semas family, John Razo. John always pits for me and even though his Son is battling with me in points, he makes sure I’m where I need to be . You all are such great people! Thank you to Jeff Bays @ Quad Mafia for all my tranny parts. Also hue thanks to Brandon and Shay @ Wild Card Racing for putting a rush on my cases. I am currently holding 2nd in both classes with two more rounds to go! Next Round will be held in Sept. at Honeylake MX in Milford, Ca.
