Word Up Thursday 1 August, visiting US writer Lynn Bloom will feature as one of three writers at the Writers without Borders event held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts. Lynn Z. Bloom is Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor and Aetna Chair of Writing at the University of Connecticut. There she has taught rhetoric and composition studies research, autobiography, creative nonfiction, and women writer’s courses since 1988. She has recently received a Fulbright Specialist grant to teach and lecture on Creative Nonfiction at the University of Waikato. The event brings together other acclaimed NZ writers. Novelist Catherine Chidgey and poet and fiction writer Jack Ross will read from their work and will be joined by MC, short fiction writer Tracey Slaughter. In other written word news, Creative Communities Scheme Hamilton recipients, Nawton School and Hillcrest High School are launching their book, ‘The Adventures of Honu’, an exciting collaborative project with Hamilton City Libraries . The story was written by Room 5 Nawton school children and then illustrated by year 10 Art students at Hillcrest High School.
