Word of Mouth vs. Facebook Facebook pages are now being used more - TopicsExpress

Word of Mouth vs. Facebook Facebook pages are now being used more often by people and communities to relay information to the public about important events. It is a new and effective means of communication that has and is being utilized by a number of school support groups facing their own levy issues (e.g. Sidney, Germantown [Valley View]). While our levy page is providing needed information to many people, do realize that there are just as many people who do not use Facebook or use it in a very limited fashion. For example I talked to several people in our community last week, who either did not know about the levy or who think the levy is a property tax rather than an income tax. They also did not know the reasons for why the levy was needed. They were not Facebook users. A few comments have been made about the need to simply “talk” to people and use the old fashioned method of “Word of Mouth” to spread information around to people in the community. I would agree with this sentiment. One on one communication or communication with small groups of people is still the best way to let people know about an issue or concern. If you support this levy, make sure your parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and/or neighbors know about it and the importance of its passage. Tell them to discuss the matter with others as well. In this way using both traditional and digital means of communication we will succeed in informing the community effectively.
