Word of the Day: Serendipity Aside from being the title of an awfully cheesy Hollywood romance movie starring Kate Beckinsale, Serendipity is a word used to describe unexpected and accidental happy events. Once upon a time, even before it was called Ceylon, the country of Sri Lanka was known as Serendip, which came from the Persian and Arabic word Sarandib. Coming from Sanskrit, the word originally meant “dwelling-place-of-lions island”. And back in the 18th century, British politician Horace Walpole read an old fairytale called “The Three Princes of Serendip”, a story filled with princes stumbling upon great and wondrous discoveries that they were not actually looking for. Walpole liked the sound of it, and just like that, a new word was born. #Tabeer #Content #Translation #Design
