Word to the Wise: as the antique auctions gain in popularity, as does the on-line auction sites where you can leave bids based on photos and descriptions of the items being auctioned off. One should be very careful when leaving bids for items that you have not physically inspected yourself or by a TRUSTED friend or associate in the business. I cannot stress this point enough. Even if you call the auction house and speak to someone about the item your interested in bidding on, chances are you will NOT get the correct or accurate description. This is not because they do this on purpose, it is simply because the person whom you might be speaking to most likely does not have expertise in the area of interest that you are calling about. This goes for just about every auction house I have ever dealt with from the small unknown to the large and popular auction houses whom you all know by name. I say it again, DO NOT TRUST THE DESCRIPTION AND REPORTS GIVEN TO YOU BY ANY AUCTION HOUSE ON AN ITEM YOU ARE PLANNING ON BIDDING ON. This is especially true if there is any serious money involved. Any of the experienced antiquers out there will back me up because they know better as well. I am telling you this so you will know better and not lose money. Look at the item in person or pass it up. Ah, the power of Facebook. Good luck.
