Word to the wise...If you are coming in from the west along I 96 and you are planning to go east on 696, THINK AGAIN about that route..It took me 5 hours to get in today from Grand Rapids.(normally three)..Eastbound traffic was backed up to Brighton..inch by inch..A motor home caught on fire in all the heat on the road (my outside car temp was 91)..More cars over heated...Then 696 is CLOSED from 275 to Telegraph...so they route you to M 5 Grand River which is another inch by inch..They take you on 9 Mile through Farmington (two lanes) to Telegraph..More traffic snarl...I chose to go to 8 (which has two lanes closed for construction to about Southfield) but after that, I was at least going 40 miles an hour..The extreme heat made it worse on the cars...and the driver temperament.. Was so glad to see my front door.
