Words by Jashin: Keeping it positive ... I came up with the Facebook Challenge when my brother and I created the 100 Sheet Challenge. The 100 Sheet Challenge gave people an opportunity to commit to painting on 100 sheets of their preferred paper choice, using one subject and one subject only, with the mindset of a master. In other words, paint to complete something, rather paint for practice. And in that 100 sheets of paper, how many masterpieces would actually come from it. We had several beginners, teachers, masters and art enthusiast join us in this endeavor. It was amazing to see the results and people were just thrilled by the opportunity. We had them submit their top 10 favorites, single subject and opened it to voting. Some really went out of their ways to self-promote themselves. People loved it and wanted us to repeat the opportunity again. But I decided not to because during the voting someone hacked into the back-end and was able to manipulate the voting to exponentially give one artist over another a huge lead. Essentially, it ruined it for everyone else, because I decided until I found a more solid platform ... I wouldnt do a challenge like that again ... if people thought it was necessary to break the system. Facebook was my alternative platform. The only issue at the time was the demographics for Facebook users were quite young and our audience was 45+ and above mostly. So, until recently ... our audience demographics as of yet wasnt comfortable on Facebook. Times are different now and its now in favor for OAS to be able to host something like the 100 Sheet Challenge once again. We set up the chart to help keep accountability and keep people posting. We offer raffle options and prizes to encourage a community of sharing and positive feedback to fuel us all to continue through. Even my mom Ling Chi who is just representing OAS and joining the group for her own self enrichment enjoys the positive feedback and exposure. When my brother and I took over the family business, we really wanted to expand it just beyond offering quality materials and supplies, we wanted to build a community who share the same joys of what our familys tradition has brought to our own lives. We love everyones participation ... we love the enthusiasm ... I love seeing what everyone is doing with their painting, writing, practice, card giving ... especially when I have had a personal hand in providing you with the best materials to express yourself ... this whole thing for me so far has been quite rewarding and I thank you all for making my dream a reality. This, you know is our first Facebook challenge of this kind ... so yes ... weve learned quite a bit of how to improve on the next one and appreciate your comments ... and now that you have possibly read this whole blog-like post ... I want to let people know that Facebook has been posting this liner in our Admin window for this page that a new change will automatically go into live mode June 10. Its making me nervous because of the comments already made about the confusion of the page. I am asking you to be patient when that times comes as until it goes live ... we at OAS will know more on how much change will actually be implemented. We still appreciate your posts ... we love seeing how youre spending your summer and we hope that this is just as fun for you ... as its been for our staff to follow you. With appreciation, Jashin
