Work at heights (WAH), crane safety and formwork were identified as the priority areas for engagement and enforcement efforts at the annual Programme-based Engagement (ProBE) Plus forum on 9 Apr 2014. Senior Parliamentary Secretary (SPS) for Education and Manpower Mr Hawazi Daipi shared the latest WSH statistics and stressed the need to address the increasing number of fatalities through better management of workplace hazards. He also announced the amendments to the WSH (WAH) Regulations. These include the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system requirements to apply to workplaces defined as Factories under the WSH Act, and removal of the requirement for the WAH safety assessor and authorised manager to be a separate person. To help industry improve WSH capabilities, SPS shared new initiatives such as two videos on guide to WAH regulations and implementing the PTW system, enhanced formwork safety course for supervisors and new formwork safety course for workers.
