Work continues tonight on the amendment to the Revenue - TopicsExpress

Work continues tonight on the amendment to the Revenue Stabilization Act which will detail how the General Assembly intends to balance this year’s budget. In the meantime, the Joint Budget Committee did move forward on several bills which would spend over $21 million of the projected $120 million surplus. The bills devote $5 million to public school facilities for open enrollment charter schools. Another $5 million will be directed to matching grants for broadband for public education. Under the proposal, the Health Department will receive $2 million of the surplus for its Breast Care Program. And close to $10 million will go to the Department of Correction for county jail reimbursements, compensation pay for employees, and operating expenses to open 200 additional beds. The Revenue Stabilization bill will likely be before the Joint Budget Committee at 8 tomorrow morning. We will then have the weekend to review the bill before a vote. The House will reconvene tomorrow at 9am.
