Work is in decline. Developed societies, with all their ever-advancing technology, need fewer and fewer workers to maintain them. The old Luddite example argument, ie that technology creates other/more jobs, no longer applies. We are not living in early 19th century Industrial Revolution times. However, instead of the increased profits from technology being shared with the workers, and ex-workers, in the form of decreased working hours PLUS higher pay to compensate, its gone into the pockets of the relevant businesses owners and bosses. (Look around you - the decreased hours and part-time working is here, now, but the higher pay isnt!) Gush Up, not Trickle Down! The Selfservatives, their current government and their wealthy supporters and donors know this but tackling the consequences will cost them money, and change the structure of society, and consign traditional economic thinking to the dustbin of history.
