Working all day today on my Bassmaster Elite story of the year. Its not about the fish. Not about the lakes. Not about the baits. It is about what I believe is the only value of sports, why I have spent the last 2 decades of my life writing about sports, it is about how, in very, very special moments, an athlete, a team, can transcend the game. Dont be fooled, the story of sports, as I see it, does not take place on the scoreboard, does not take place on the weigh-in scales. The story of sports takes place within the heart of those on the playing field. There comes moments in the game, rare moments, where the game within the person defines all future moments of the game that will be played on the field. One of those moments happened during the Elite 2014 season. Happened to my great friends, pretty much family, Kevin Shortand Kerry Short…and it is their moments on our field of play that to me, is, and will be my sports story of the year. Writing that story today for Bassmaster-dot-com. And for their story, my sports story of the year…this will be their song...
