ADA Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, 29 U.S.C. § 794 (Section 504). Most of these concern identification of students who are protected by Section. The purpose of civil law is to compensate victims of wrongdoing, usually by ordering the wrongdoers to pay them monetary damages. The burden of proof in civil cases is much lower than in criminal cases: generally, the plaintiff must show it’s more likely than not that the defendant committed the tort (known as the preponderance of evidence standard)
