Workshop (part of Mentoring/Advisory?) Now part of the 7th grade curriculum at Saxe? (Links below) Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Positive Youth Development This was an optional program parents used to sign up for afterschool. But now every student in 7th grade will take this class twice a month during the school day. Who teaches this? Do all students need this? What are the goals? What if my child does not wish to participate? Should we displace instructional time if not all students need this? What if my child needs academic help instead of social or emotional help? What if parents are not comfortable with the lesson(s)? How do parents get feedback after every session? Will students be assessed? SEL is highly successful in inner-cities where populations may be very diverse, or where families have not met the needs of children prior to attending school. There are very few suburban models out there - see guide here: casel.org/ files.leagueathletics/Images/Club/6257/TTL%20Scope.pdf newcanaancares.org/index.php/new-canaan-charity-programs/youth-programs?id=125
