World Masters Athletics Rankings update – FINALLY!!!! (mastersathletics.co – yes, it is .co not ) It seems that people are starting to hear about the rankings and submitting performances using the on-line form. Thank you to all who have informed people about the website. Please keep telling people; encouraging athletes to use the system, submit their own results, navigate around and provide feedback on features, issues, etc.; and most importantly, encourage anyone who can afford to and thinks it is a worthwhile venture to contribute (there are donation links and links to an address for mailing on the sites). These donations are the only means of helping me afford to develop and maintain the system so far. Programs have been slowing me down for the past several days where I have had to fix problems due to errors in my programs. I finally fixed all the errors in the import and combining athlete programs so I will be able to get many more performances in the rankings tomorrow and Thursday!!! Sorry this took me so long to get this fixed. Additionally, I have finally programmed the “combine athlete” function so you will see the duplicates start to disappear this week (I have already started to combine starting with the men A, B, C…). I hope to clean up some of the duplicate meets this week as well. The performances people have sent me from Poland, South Africa, Australia, The Netherlands, Croatia and Italy should be inserted by the end of this week. I had much work to do to correct some of the errors caused by my programs so I had to go back and redo the Estonian performances (multiple times). The additional performances that have been inserted since my last update are your entries (we have more new people from a few more countries) plus a pretty comprehensive race walk list. There have been some minor improvements over the past few days. Some of these are thanks to athlete suggestions. You can see the change from World, Regional and Country lists by the header color and globe, regional maps or flags. The regions are aligned with IAAF regions now. People who have submitted questions, comments, etc. using the on-line form have received their responses within hours of submitting. Please look in your junk mailbox if you haven’t seen the response. These rankings are in progress. It will probably take a few months to obtain all of the appropriate performances to really make the 2013 rankings accurate (some of the really good performances may never show up). I need everybody’s help to find the best performances for 2013. Performances for 2014 and beyond will get into the rankings through many different ways like athletes submitting using the on-line form, meet results pulled from websites, meet results sent to us, etc. Some have mentioned a concern about letting athletes submit their own results and not being honest. I have not figured out exactly how yet but I will have a system in place that will minimize or eliminate embellishments. I have a system for the US rankings that seems to keep the embellishments in check. Lastly, there are some features that are still in development like a policy and or system for dealing with wind aided performances. Please keep sending the suggestions. This system is for your benefit so I need your suggestions and requests to make it really good for you.
