World Water Day Ceremony at the Headwaters this Saturday 1 p.m. Women of the world are being called by the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers to gather on World Water Day, March 22, 2014, and pray for the health of the Water, Mother Earth & Humanity. There will be a local ceremony at 1 p.m. at the Headwaters in the City Park led by Sally Cooper, honoring written guidance from the 13 Grandmothers ( Grandmotherscouncil.org ). Gentle Thunder will offer her musical prayers on flute. Water is a living, vital and precious element in all our lives! Mount Shasta City is known for its amazing water and we are stewards of the water that feeds the Sacramento valley. Given the current state of emergency drought, this is a timely call to bring our presence, gratitude and prayers to the water. Participants are asked to bring a personal bottle of water to use during the ceremony and take home afterward. You are also invited to please bring a food donation (non-perishable and canned food items only) as a way of caring for our local elders. There will be a table near the playground for collecting food and cash donations from 1-2 p.m. Nicole Letscher, long-time resident of Mount Shasta, is coordinating this event. A proud mother of three and a lover of Mount Shastas pristine environment, she felt inspired by what the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers will be doing in ceremony at Montezuma’s Well in Arizona during the upcoming World Water Day. She organized this prayer gathering at the Headwaters to sync up with their call to the women of the world by asking local Grandmother and midwife, Sally Cooper, to facilitate. Sally, a mother of eight, grandmother of two, resident of Mount Shasta since 1987, and a Licensed Midwife serving families in Siskiyou County, stepped forward to serve. Sally and the Cooper Family of ten spent four years in Kosovo where, through various creative projects, they supported the hearts of many. Nicole reached out to GRAMMY® nominated multi-instrumentalist and musical intuitive, Gentle Thunder, to add her musical prayers. Since August 2009, Gentle Thunder has offered her musical prayers in ceremony with Dr. Masaru Emoto, the 13 Indigenous Grandmothers at several water blessings, fundraiser film screenings around the country of their documentary “For the Next 7 Generations,” and played at four of their major Council gatherings. Gentle Thunder feels blessed to call Mount Shasta home for the past 20 years. She is internationally known for her authentic presence, passionate connection to the Earth and distinctive musical style on handcrafted wooden flutes, drums and hammer dulcimer. Presently she is taking a break from touring, offering one-on-one and group vibrational attunement sessions, as well as private flute lessons in Mount Shasta. GentleThunder Please join together for this Spring Equinox blessing of our beloved waters, earth and global community. If you can’t make it to the Headwaters, please consider taking time to give thanks and bless the water wherever you are!
