World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car Series, opening race in their Spring Break Tour, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the FVP Outlaw Showdown ARTICLE BY: Gaye Carmichael, Motor Sports Journalist [email protected] (530) 409-0646 (Las Vegas, NV, 03/05/2014) What were the odds that Paul McMahan, in this fabulous neon city, would score the opening night, World of Outlaws, Sprint Car Series featured event victory. McMahan drives the CJB Motorsports #51 Sprint and started this race, front row in second. Paul grew up in Elk Grove, CA, pretty much starting his sprint car career. Now he hails from Nashville, TN. Paul has nineteen career WoO wins. Paul qualified fourth fast with a 14.374 second run, won his heat race, finishing in second in the dash, that led him to his main event win in this FVP Outlaw Showdown, in their Spring Break Tour. I feel awesome. They did a good job with the track. We had a good car and once we got rolling, it proved itself to make it easier. I have to say the last restarts made me a bit nervous (said with a laugh). As the race went on, we fell back a spot or so. When the open red flag flew out, it gave all of us an opportunity to add fuel, do some minor adjustments and it helped. My crew tried a thing or two, made some changes and it was good. I cant thank my crew enough for all their work and for sticking with me. We had a great car. said McMahan. Crossing the finish line in second, is the King of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, Steve Kinser of Bloomington, IN, driver of the Tony Stewart, Bad Boy #11 S. Kinser, has carved out one fantastic career, having won 577 races and twenty championships, while racing in the WoO Sprint Car Series. Steve, who is making 2014 his last full year racing for points, shows he is still a great force to be reckoned with. Tonight he clocked in a 14.542 second,123.779 mph lap to qualify seventh out of the thirty-seven car field of entries. Then went on to win to win the third heat race and finish fourth in the dash. Weve been pretty good the last couple of times. Our car has been better than it was. The track was good, though it seemed like it was getting a little slick on the back stretch, but Im not complaining. said Steve, with a big smile. Third place went to Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, CA, driving the Kasey Kahne Racing #49 Sprint. Sweet started the race in sixteenth and had a really sweet run to the front. This was not an easy feat by any means, it just proved that Brad was up to the challenge. My Crew gave me a great car. The track was good, both on the top and the bottom. The red flag (which soon became and open red flag) also helped bring the field together as we lined up for the new green. I want to thank Kasey Kahne Racing, all of our Sponsors and all of my crew. I hate to run, but I have to change. said Sweet. It was approximately 12:30 AM, now 03/06/2014, plus the Haulers had began to roll out. My thanks to these drivers who hung in their for after race interviews. Joey Saldana of Brownsburg, IN, reeled in a fourth place finish. l Saldana posted a 14.267 second, 126.165 mph, in qualifying, took second in the first heat race and third in the Dash, driving the Motter #71 Sprint of Motter Equipment. Saldana had a very solid fourth place run from the eighth or ninth lap, that he held onto to take the checkered flag. Donny Schatz, of Fargo, ND, earned a fifth, in this event, having started in sixth. Schatz had scored a record amount of wins in the 2013 WoO Sprints, was second in the points race, so he definitely is a huge contender for the title. Sixth went to Daryn Pittman, Owasso,OK, who is the 2013 WoO Sprint Car Series Champion. Seventh went to Rico Abreu, St. Helena, CA. Rico raced through this field of heavy hitters from his twenty-first start, to take the checkered flag. I believe he is the Hard Charger of this race. Rico just had scored a double victory at Cocopah Race Track, AZ, wining on 02/28/2014, then captured the big one, $10,000 to win, on 03/01/2014. Eighth went to Cody Darrah (PA), followed by, Jason Meyers (CA), Tim Kaeding (CA), Kraig Kinser (IN), Terry McCarl (IA), Brad Loyet (MO), Brian Brown (MO), Brian Clauson (IN), Sammy Swindell (TN), Kerry Madsen (AUS), Jason Sides (TN), Dominic Scelzi (CA), Wayne Johnson (OK), Logan Schuchart (PA), Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (TX), Danny Lasoski (MO), Jac Haudenschild (OH). All, times, finishes, etc. are unofficial. #### Earning, (and I mean, earning) the Hard Charger Award (unofficially) was Rico Abreu of St. Helena, CA. Rico started in twenty-first at the green, taking the checkered flag in seventh. Rico had just earned victories at Cocopah Race Track in AZ, on 02/28 & 03/01/2014.
