#WorldwideVoyage partner National Geographic recently launched an online competition called Expedition Granted, it is a nationwide search to find the next generation of explorers and to grant one teams dream expedition for $50,000. Online voting is currently going on and coincidentally #Hokulea crew member Cliff Kapono is tied for first place! Cliff has been in California for the last two years working on obtaining a PhD in Chemistry at the University of California San Diego. The Kamehameha Schools alum is working with good friend and fellow surfer scientist, Clint Edwards, at Scripps Institution of Oceanography to visually map the health of our reefs. They proposed an expedition to travel to Pipeline, Teahupoʻo, P-Pass, Cloudbreak, and an unnamed reef with great waves in 2014 to see what is really going on under these great surf breaks.
