Wormer resistance. I know its a big problem in equines so i worm - TopicsExpress

Wormer resistance. I know its a big problem in equines so i worm count and just worm routinely for encysted redworm, tapeworm and bot in early winter with my shetland pony. Im going to start going down this route with the dogs too but in the meantime i have a problem. Ive always wormed roughly three monthly with drontal plus. When Sam came in august he was with us a couple of weeks and i wormed him. He passed loads of worms. When i did the gang in September i did him again as he was still ribby and still had diarrhoea. No worms passed by anyone. Holly is now carrying slightly less weight than normal but the vet seems happy its probably increased activity with Sam. I have increased her food and she is better covered but I would like her heavier really. Sam now looks great, and his exercise tolerance has increased but he still has diarrhoea and vet has advised some diet changes (mainly scavenge prevention) which is in hand. Anyway to cut to the chase they would be due worming again the end of this month but yesterday i found a poo in the garden full of worms. Looked like a never wormed poo. Not sure which dog did it but Im obviously concerned that my worming regime is falling down somewhere or there is resistance in one of my dogs. I will be sending for sample kits and speaking to my vet. I will also be asking about Lungworm as Sam is still exhibiting some symptoms. With his entirely unknown background, with having lived rough, and with his exercise intolerance its an obvious concern. Anyway Im naturally wanting to dynamite them all asap and was wondering what to order today off vet medic thats not drontal plus so i can get them all done. Cost is an issue but not as much as effectiveness obviously. Not knocking the product at all but i think i need to use something else. Anyone know about this stuff? I would use ten of my normal tablets for my five. One for Holly two for cleo and Sam and two and a half for the old lads as its one per ten Kg. Sorry not entirely agility related but worm resistance and wormer routines are important to us all. X
