Worrisome! Say Dr. Clement the WHO Doctor assigned in Lofa as new cases of the Ebola virus pops up in the County. Speaking today at the regular Ebola update coordination meeting in Voinjama, Dr. Clement expressed disappointment for the increased in new cases especially in Foya because of the influx of infected people from Monrovia and other parts of the country. He said it is also heart breaking to note that Health worker in Voinjama will be getting infected because of their defiant attitude by treating patients in their various homes. Recently a health worker (Richard Akoi) got infected when treating an Ebola survivor who got re-infected. The patient (a female from the Zeamah Family) later died and her entire household of 8 is now at the Foya Treatment center including Richard Akoi the Nurse. Dr. Clement said, if this continues in this uncontrollable manner of influx of people by passenger vehicles, Loffans should begin brazing herself to fight another outbreak. He said Kolahun is relatively calm right now. Since Friday September 19, 2014, the total death rate recorded by the CHT is 15 deaths with 6 confirmed deaths; 2 from others of the country; 2, Kolahun and 2 from Foya while others parts of the county reported Zero. Newly confirmed cases 2 Kolahun; Foya 2; Voinjama and Quadu Gboni 3 and other parts of Liberia 2 and the total deaths since the second outbreak now stands at 432 while 232 out of the total are confirmed deaths. Today the CHT give an analytical breakdown of people affected by category: age groups, # of children# female # of male and # of early people as you can see in photo one. The total number of patients at the Foya Treatment Center has increased from less than 20 a week ago to 30 as of today with most of the patients coming from Monrovia and other parts of the country and infecting people along the way and in communities where they are welcome. In other update, Hon Sumo Kupee has clarified that his first donations to the county which I reported as 6,400 USD was understated. He said, with the exclusion of Vahun districts the total amount spend on the first donation was 11,600 (eleven thousand six hundred USD) and 150,000 (one hundred and fifty Liberian dollars). He said the 6,400 USD figure mentioned in my first post was only for Voinjama and other districts while the other materials were distributed along the way. Today the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) distributed some items to targeted area of the county. According to the County Chairman of the party Johnson Kowah, his party would not deal with the county health team or county Ebola Task force because they, (CDC), were not part of the planning process; therefore his party was going to distribute the items according to their own plans. Speaking at the presentation, Former Superintendent of Lofa and Senatorial Hopeful on the CDC ticket, Galakpa Kortimai distributed the item as follows: 2 hand washing buckets and one cartoon of chloride for each district and 10 gallons of gasoline for each community radio stations in the county. This news of influx has make the county venerable to the Ebola Virus as people desperately send for their people from Monrovia for safety and good treatment in Lofa and if this doesn’t stop, we are close to another outbreak which will be a complete setback.
