Worrying about the Walmart employees who must work thanksgiving - TopicsExpress

Worrying about the Walmart employees who must work thanksgiving due to Black Friday creep seems like such white liberal guilt. I had to go out to the Grocery store today for last minute items. All of them were open till the afternoon. I had to stop by Walgreens at 8 to get something for Carl. It was open its regular hours. It has been this way with retail for a long time. Why dont we fret about the gas station attendants, the grocery baggers, the other jobs that keep people away from home on Holidays? Heck, Missy used to work for 24Hour Fitness...open Thanksgiving which means someone is staffing it. I bet a bunch of the people in for their workout this morning signed some sort of e-pledge not to shop. And its not even that simple. Even if we roll back Black Friday. Stockers have to come in earlier than normal to get ready, extra security on hand for the extra product and people camping out. Staff need to go to bed early to get up early. And thats just as the store. I live in Roseville, Biggest Railyard west of the Rockies. There were lots of trains moving through today filled with goods for stores across the nation. Do we worry about the engineers, conductors, yard staff and dispatchers that all must work the holidays to keep things moving? Truckers? Airport and Airline staff at all levels? Having a Thanksgiving holiday uninterrupted by work is a privileged thing.
