Worshipping God always makes me hungry. At my First Holy Communion - TopicsExpress

Worshipping God always makes me hungry. At my First Holy Communion in second grade at St. Philomenas, our little family celebrated my new level of piety by going to the Hyatt House for breakfast, where my kid brother Bill downed four waffles which was half his usual allotment, threw up in the aisle on everything including the waitress, and happily wolfed down several more. Im thinking about God and food because I read this morning that Peter Hallock, founder and director of Seattles world-renown Compline Choir, passed away last Sunday. I was obviously saddened, but I also felt a little bit of celebration in my heart for a life well-lived. Ive been taking the kids to the Sunday evening Compline service since they were preschoolers. The music, the Scripture recitation, and the dimmed lights have been a magical part of our hum-drum everyday for over thirty years, and my daughter Sara and I still go every Sunday evening. The service is broadcast live on Seattles Classic King 98.1 and streamed around the world. Dicks in Wallingford is and has always been a part of the ritual, usually in times past with the oldies on KBSG blaring in the car. The worship is definitely enhanced by fries and shakes.
