Worthington’s Sponsored Merthyr & District Darts League 2014/15 Season. Dial M For Matthews As Mighty Merv Mauls Champs While Runaway Horse Tramples Poor Baili In Whitewash Nightmare. After the sixth round of league games in the Merthyr & District Darts League for the 2014/15 Season we are now beginning to see things taking shape with the title contenders already showing their mettle while for others its already looking like a long hard slog and a fight for survival. Some sides are in the middle ground but cannot relax as a bad result or two could see the trapdoor begin to open beneath them and the tungsten’s target become a trifle tougher to hit. Division One. Horse & Groom 9 v Baili-Glas Inn “A” 0. This trip for the Baili turned out to be a nightmare as nothing went their way with the arrows just landing on the wrong side of the wire for scoring and their shots at the winning double meeting with the curse that seems to affect them home and away as try as hard as they might the darts would just not nestle in the right area. The first pairs of the night set the tone for the game as Jason Launchbury 140 & Alan Mee found the double impossible to hit as Steve Nicholas 100 & Wayne Titcomb took the leg against the darts to put the Horse into an early lead. Owain Davies 100 & Mark Virgin 125 then made it 2-0 with a hold of throw over Nigel Meek & Terry Morgan 100 and in a second break of throw of the match the excellent pairing of Phil Williams 140 & Brian Nicholas 100 beat Jamie Phillips & Tim Charleston to take the pairs three zip and a comfortable lead going into the singles. Phil Williams 100,121,125,140 held throw in the first singles beating Andrew Morgan for a 4-0 lead and in the next game Brian Nicholas 3x100,125 broke the throw of Jason Launchbury 2x100,135,137,140 to inflict the Baili players first defeat of the season on him as winning shots at the double went a begging. Steve Nicholas 2x100, 123,140,180 was like a sky rocket against the Baili’s Jamie Phillips taking the game 2-0 for a 6-0 lead. Steve Williams 4x100 could not buy a double for the Baili in his match with Wayne Titcomb as the Horse stretched the lead to 7-0 and Wayne Smalldon fared no better in the next game as Steve Thomas 100,140 piled more misery on to luckless Baili. The final game of the night saw Owain Davies 100,17,2x140 complete the whitewash with a 2-0 win over Alan Mee leaving the visitors to lick their wounds and regroup for their next battle away at the defending champions at the Merthyr Labour Club. Baili-Glas Inn “B” 6 v Merthyr Labour Club 3. This was an amazing game containing some 56 ton-plus scores and countless scores of 80+ as the defending champions from the Labour Club suffered their second 6-3 defeat in a row as the Baili “B” beefed up their push for the title. The hosts got off to a flier with Mervyn Matthews 2x100,135 & Byron Jones breaking the throw of Gareth Dunn 100,140 & Chris Galleozzie 140 for an early and morale boosting lead. Andrew Rough 2x100,112,2x140 maintained his good form with a fine 2-0 win over Kevin Mahoney 100,135 making it 4-0 and then 5-0 daily arrived courtesy of a fantastic display from Mervyn Matthews 100,132,116 out in a 2-0 win over Ron Morgan 100. Steve Haman 2x100,115,121 was under the weather with a slight cold and was put under the cosh by Kevin Forbes 100,125,134,140 as the Labour thrower took the game against the darts by a 2-1 score in a hard fought game. With the away side now on something of a roll it was left to Gareth Dunn 100,140 to grab the champs a valuable fourth point but the Typhoon Geraint Thomas 2x100,121,109 out had other ideas taking the game 2-0 against the darts for a splendid 6-3 win for the home side.
