Would you want to drive a 3D printed car?? Meet the Strati a 3D printed car that can be printed in 24 hours. Another feature of the astounding model is that it only has 49 parts, compared to a general car which has roughly 2, 500 parts! Local Motors came up with the concept of the Strati when they asked the public to design some cars. It made its big début at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago and used direct digital manufacturing (DDM) the Strati was both printed and assembled in just 44 hours on site. Most of the parts are made of Carbon-fibre reinforced ABS plastic. However, not all the components could be printed as Renault had to provide the power-train and the tyres had to be custom built. Local Motors plan to make the cars available to the general public and are taking reservations on their website.
