Wow - I have been getting so many wonderful facebook friends messaging me inquiring about my little Henry. I so appreciate everyone reaching out in so many ways offering their expertise (its good to have facebook friends who do this for a living!), their support and their advice. Here is a synopsis for anyone who would like to know about The King. Henry gets speech one time a week (soon moving to two), Developmental Intervention three times a week, and OT once soon going to two times a week. He gets these services through Early Intervention. He is a very sensory seeking boy. He started out therapy in January as a 2 year old who still put every single thing in his mouth. He would even lick the carpet (YUK!) when wed go somewhere new. And only could say about 6 works and nothing unprompted. He is so much better with that now. He rarely puts anything in his mouth and he has a pretty decent word bank of about 30 words. All the therapists feel he is not on the spectrum at all, that is not his issue. He is very social and loves interaction. But he does have sensory issues. Hes sensitive, both emotionally and physically. He has low tone, which I actually did not buy for a while because you cant tell by looking at him. He doesnt flop around or anything. He runs and climbs, etc. but they said that he has low tone in his core, and his grip is weak, his extremities dont show resistance ever, and they feel his facial muscles are low tone too which hinders his ability to form the words easily. They have speculated he could have something called Apraxia (I had never heard of this so I had to do a lot of googling!!) That is something that a neuro would be able to tell us. We havent taken him to a neuro yet. I want to wait. I am not ready for that part of the journey just yet. He is very special - he is smart and understands everything. He is a little musical genius. He is a weird little dude, but you can see that he is loving and warm, and loves affection, and he adds so much to my older boys lives. But he is HIGH MAINTENANCE! Sometimes I feel much too old to be his mom. Which is why I need to get in shape again! I thank each of you all so much for genuinely showing me and Dave your friendship and support.
