Wow... 25 years ago today I was in Athens, Ohio for my freshman orientation. I was staying in Jefferson Hall. At one point I walked up Jeff Hill to check out Court Street for the first time in my life. There used to be a record store there by the Athena. First money I ever spent at Ohio University....was to buy this album. By 89 the Beasties were passe. But once school started, every single night after dinner I would put my boombox in my window of my 4th floor Read Hall room and blast this album. I would sit and watch people walking back to their dorms, with spring in their step bobbing their heads, having no idea who they were listening to. I knew immediately that it was pure genius.
