Wow. Being absent for 20 days counts as being chronically absent? This year alone I had to kick out 9 students for being chronically absent as defined by Malaysian standards - 60 days. If we used 20 days as an indicator, 33/40 students or 82% of the students in my class count as being chronically absent. Thats 4 out of 5 students. Its no wonder theyre not their passing core subjects! Glad to see a solution being brought forward to increase attendance. Its things like this that we need, not further berating that attendance is a key component to academic success; most teachers if not all know that already (especially the ones in high need schools where the students dont go for tuition). We want solutions.
