Wow. I don’t know why this blows my mind, but it does. I always assumed that if an astronaut in space removed his or her helmet, their head would simply instantaneously explode. Apparently, if I understand the articles Ive read correctly (and there are some big words in there), he/she would at least retain consciousness for a couple of seconds, and, depending upon the spacesuit, it even seems like it might be possible for the helmet to be replaced and the astronaut to survive. I’m not sure about that last part, it was a lot of high-tech scientific jargon. Maybe Casey Nelan can help me out here...
