Wow. I found myself in a discussion with a person who claimed it was the Muslims who drove the Jews out of ancient Palestine. Seriously. Guys, we can talk about and discuss a lot of things, but.... damn. If you dont have at least the most BASIC grasp of historical knowledge and facts, then dont waste my time. For those who would like to learn some actual history: Judah fell in 586 BC, after a revolt against the Neo-Babylonian Empire (not Muslim...). Then in the 2nd century BCE the Judaeans revolted against the Hellenist Seleucid Empire (not Muslim) and created the Hasmonean kingdom. This, the last nominally independent Judean kingdom, came to an end in 63 BCE with its conquest by Pompey of Rome. The Romans were not Muslims, in case you didnt know. There were no Muslims until.... 632-ish, after the death of Muhammad. You can throw in the Persians, if youd like. They are in there somewhere. Still not Muslims and they didnt expel any Jews. So, to be clear: Muslims have NOTHING TO DO with Jews being driven from their ancient homeland. Nothing whatsoever. BUT.... there is this: In the Siege of Jerusalem of 614, after 21 days of relentless siege warfare, Jerusalem was captured. Byzantine chronicles relate that the Sassanids and Jews slaughtered tens of thousands of Christians in the city, many at the Mamilla Pool, and destroyed their monuments and churches, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. ... WHAT?????? You werent taught THAT in school???? That Sassanids (they arent Muslim) and JEWS ... slaughtered TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CHRISTIANS???? Why? ...... In 638 CE the Islamic Caliphate extended its dominion to Jerusalem. With the Arab conquest, Jews were allowed back into the city. (WHAT????) The Rashidun caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab signed a treaty with Monophysite Christian Patriarch Sophronius, assuring him that Jerusalems Christian holy places and population would be protected under Muslim rule. Christian-Arab tradition records that, when led to pray at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the holiest site for Christians, the caliph Umar refused to pray in the church so that Muslims would not request conversion of the church to a mosque. He prayed outside the church, where the Mosque of Umar (Omar) stands to this day, opposite the entrance to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. When the Muslims went to Bayt Al-Maqdes for the first time, they searched for the site of the Al-Aqsa Mosque (The Farthest Mosque) that was mentioned in Quran and Hadith according to Islamic beliefs. Contemporary Arabic and Hebrew sources say the site was full of rubbish, and that Arabs and Jews cleaned it. (WHAT??? Muslims and Jews peacefully working together???? In JERUSALEM???) Or.... THIS: In 1099, the Fatimid ruler expelled the native Christian population before Jerusalem was conquered by the Crusaders, who massacred most of its Muslim and Jewish inhabitants when they took the solidly defended city by assault, after a period of siege, and left the city emptied of people.... . Another Christian MASSACRE of Jews... and Muslims. Wow. . The city had been virtually emptied and recolonized by a variegated inflow of Greeks, Bulgarians, Hungarians, Georgians, Armenians, Syrians, Egyptians, Nestorians, Maronites, Jacobite Monophysites, Copts and others, to block the return of the surviving Muslims and Jews. The north-eastern quarter was repopulated with Eastern Christians from the Transjordan. . Oh, look: heres a Muslim. The eeeeeeevil and terrible Muslim leader Saladin. Lets see what HE did..................... In 1187, the city was wrested from the Crusaders by Saladin, who permitted Jews and Muslims to return and settle in the city. Wait... WHAT?????? The leading Muslim conqueror permitted Jews to return and settle in Jerusalem????? What the....????? But... but... but hes a MUSLIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A MUSLIM LET THE JEWS RETURN AND SETTLE IN JERUSALEM?????? Yep. In 1244, Jerusalem was sacked by the Khwarezmian Tartars, who decimated the citys Christian population and drove out the Jews. (they werent Muslims....) On and on and on... No Muslims expelled any Jews from Jerusalem, or anywhere else in historic Palestine. Quite the contrary. You didnt learn ANY that from your history books??? I wonder why not...... I blame the terrible American educational system.... and the political forces who control it. Learn some history, folks... or you will get schooled.
