Wow. I remember when this reunion seemed so far, far away. I fantasized about it in 1964 (how decrepit or dead I would probably be), and we started planning it in around 2012, and now its less than a week away. I was thinking about what music Id like to hear at the party and realized that I dont need the services of a DJ to spin tunes for me. Anything I want to hear at the reunion, I can instantly hear on this PC, or on my iPods/Pad, or smart phone, or CD player or satellite radios. But ... the great fun of old music is digging it, smiling at it, humming with it, singing with it and shaking to it with old friends who remember when that old music was new. My choice of party music has changed a lot since the 60s. Back then I boogied to the Stones, Beatles, Doors, Hendrix, Airplane, Animals, Dylan, Creedence, BeeGees, Byrds, Santana, Janis, Mamas, Fugs, Fudge, Fish etc. For quieter times (maybe while stoned, maybe while straight), it was Baez, Collins, Mitchell, Watson, Dylan again, Ian & Sylvia, Janis Ian, Kingston Trio, Limeliters, Shankar, Piaf, Paxton, Ochs, Son House, B.B King, Buffy, Dr. John, Mayall, Blues Project, Seeger, Hooker, Mahal, Lehrer, Brubeck, Coltrane, Miles, Bird, Diz, Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi, Prokofiev, Gershwin, etc. I was a musical snob. Back then I considered surfer, motown and doo-wop to be mindless trash. Now I know that the ancient, ignored trash is _perfect_ party music. In fact, one of my favorite CDs is a mindless medley of Louie Louie, Mony Mony, Hully Gully and Woolie Bully.
