Wow! What a massive week! Our staff of four thank everyone for keeping us on our toes with your fantastic videos, feedback and donations. In addition to trying to keep on top of the Ice Bucket Challenge we are still carrying on with our core research, advocacy, awareness and information provision activities. Today is closing day for applications for new MND research grants that will be awarded by the MND Research Committee at the grants allocation meeting at the end of October. The committee members have a tough job ahead of them. So far we have logged 55 applications for grants in aid and 12 applications for post doctoral fellowships with more expected to arrive before the midnight cut-off. Each application will by scrutinised by all eleven research committee members so they can be sure the available record amount of funds will go only to the best proposals that have the greatest chance of providing benefit for people with MND. Representatives from state MND associations and MND Australia had a productive meeting with the Aged Care department and National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) group in Canberra to talk about the needs of people living with MND – right care, right time, right place. People diagnosed with MND need early access to assessment, planning and services and regular review to meet their changing and complex needs no matter which sector funds the services. Well be working behind the scenes over the weekend, and look forward to another big week.
